About imperfection
Sometimes I feel like the only person in the world that is imperfect. But I'm not. Everyone is imperfect. The problem is there is pressure to present ourselves as perfect. Perfect bodies, perfect partner, perfect jobs, perfect intelligence, perfect hair, perfect outfit, perfect family, perfect friends, perfect facebook post, perfect home .... Life is so not like that. But people pretend. Few people are prepared to show their imperfections, let alone embrace or celebrate them. The pretence feeds a cycle of 'cant show imperfections'. This is a real problem because it holds us back. It can make us feel embarrassed or ashamed. It can create anxiety.
On this page we share a strategy for embracing imperfection. First you name an imperfection. Naming is powerful. Say it out loud, write it down. Seeing it and hearing it can be liberating. Discuss it with a friend, someone you know you can trust. Then you are invited to respond to it. This is the "but then ..." part. This is the part where you find a way of living with this imperfection. You embrace it.
This strategy uses envelopes with windows. The imperfections are shown in the windows. We get a small peak at them. They can be a little timid about showing themselves at first. The more we explore them, the clearer they get. Once you have seen them and understood them it is so much easier to embrace or forgive them. Liberating.
